JUN 26 | 8 PM

Thanks to PNC for making this evening possible!

Established by an Act of Congress in 1798, the United States Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Its mission is unique—to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. The Marine Big Band consists of 10-15 musicians on saxophone, trumpet, and trombone, along with a rhythm section including piano, guitar, bass, and drums.

Made up of members of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, the Marine Big Band programs feature jazz and classic big band favorites by such artists as Billy Strayhorn, Harry James, Count Basie, and Benny Goodman as well as progressive and contemporary jazz, swing, funk, blues, ballads, and even pop music.

FRED RADKE, special trumpeter

Fred Radke is a masterful trumpeter, big-band conductor, musical clinician and educator, recording artist, composer and arranger, and producer. Along with vocalist Gina Funes, Radke has captivated hordes of veteran big-band music fans as well as novice listeners throughout the Pacific Northwest, Canada, and across North America and East Asia. In 2007 he won his third Telly Award, for Visions of Valor, recognizing Medal of Honor recipients. He also won Tellys in 2004 as music director for the Museum of Flights’ Wings of Heroes and in 2005 for Apollo 13.  In 2009 and 2010, Radke packed the halls of the Montreal Jazz Festival, delighting fans with his Harry James Orchestra. Radke is also a member of the American Society of Composers, Arrangers, and Publishers (ASCAP). He is a great supporter of the U.S. armed forces and is a lifetime member of the U.S. Marine Corps Support Group, Seattle.
