Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start…

Allegedly the first ever sing-a-long happened at a nursing home in Inverness. The nurses wanted to involve the elderly in interactive group therapy, so they screened Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and gave out song sheets to sing-a-long. The idea was then developed for the Sound of Music for the 1999 Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in London in 1999 before opening at London’s Prince Charles Cinema. Where it has been running ever since.

Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music has gone on to tour the whole of the UK and take the world by storm in Amsterdam, Dublin, New York, St Louis, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Toronto, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Oslo, Stockholm, and many other major cities around the globe.

Significantly, 2022 saw it’s 21^st consecutive sell-out of Los Angeles’ iconic Hollywood Bowl.

Sing-a-long-a is completely inclusive—you can join in as much or as little as you want and everyone receives a free fun pack for the “magic moments.” A pre-film show features a live host who takes the audience through a vocal warm-up, preparations for the magic moments throughout the film, and the world famous fancy dress competition.

The world-famous Sing-a-long-a format has been delighting audiences since 1999. The important thing about Sing-a-long-a is that it’s completely inclusive – you join in as much or as little as you want. It’s not compulsory to dress up but many people do and it really adds to the fun. There’s a 30-minute pre-film show during which the host leads you through a vocal warm-up, prepares you for special moments throughout the film and judges the fancy dress competition. Everyone receives a free fun pack with special props for the “magic moments” that make the evening go with a bang.
