A Message from Foundation Leadership

Welcome back to Wolf Trap!

After a year of challenging events, I am thrilled to welcome you back to Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts to reunite with live music, nature, and each other. As our long intermission comes to an end, we can all benefit from the unparalleled power the arts offers to heal and create connections with one another.

In 2021, we celebrate 50 years of Wolf Trap and thank our great community for supporting us through five wonderful decades. When Mrs. Catherine Filene Shouse first founded Wolf Trap, she set out with a vision to weave music and nature seamlessly together in the beautiful oasis of this National Park. As thousands stepped into the majestic Filene Center during the inaugural performance on July 1, 1971, Wolf Trap truly became a Park for the people. Although Wolf Trap has evolved over the years, thanks to the unique partnership between the Foundation and National Park Service, its essence, spirit, and commitment to serving its mission live on just as Mrs. Shouse envisioned.

I am delighted this year’s 50th Anniversary Season continues Wolf Trap’s strong tradition of presenting artists of all genres including folk, pop, classical, jazz, Broadway, soul, rock, and more. It is particularly special that Wolf Trap Opera’s concert productions, a great passion of Mrs. Shouse, will all occur on the Filene Center stage this summer. Mrs. Shouse’s commitment to education is also evident not only in the excellence of the opera training program, but also in our children’s performances at the Filene Center, and Wolf Trap Foundation’s robust arts education programs throughout the country.

Thank you to our many donors, the staffs and volunteers of the Foundation and the NPS, our dedicated Board of Directors, and all who helped carry Wolf Trap through the past year. As we celebrate 50 years of Wolf Trap this summer, I look forward to the decades to come and our continued commitment to Mrs. Shouse’s vision.
